The name

绍兴——「绍」继、「兴」盛——是叠在更早越地地理上的州名。「会稽」（古典山州之意）、「山阴」是行政与文学地层；「越」点名古越国文化圈，仍软化本地听地图的方式。英文 Shaoxing 跟随普通话。读法从越与会稽起：今天是浙江一州；文明代号却是海岸炫光之内陆的江南——在此写、饮、争。「绍」是市民命题，不是口号。Shaoxing—“continuing” or inheriting glory—is a prefecture name layered over older Yue geography.
