Qingming
qīng míng shí jié yǔ fēn fēn
lù shàng xíng rén yù duàn hún
jiè wèn jiǔ jiā hé chù yǒu
mù tóng yáo zhǐ xìng huā cūn
At Qingming the rain falls thick; travelers on the road seem heartsick. Ask where a tavern is—the herd boy points far to Apricot Blossom Village.
Festival rain, wandering grief, and a distant warm direction.
Du Mu’s Qingming: travelers on the road near broken souls—rain and a wineshop make the festival a search for warmth. Short and exact. Today: on gray memorial days, one lit place can pull a person back from the brink.
On memorial days, allow sorrow—and allow a warm stop along the way.
