Viewing the Lushan Waterfall
rì zhào xiāng lú shēng zǐ yān
yáo kàn pù bù guà qián chuān
fēi liú zhí xià sān qiān chǐ
yí shì yín hé luò jiǔ tiān
The sun illuminates the incense burner mountain, generating purple mist. Distantly, the waterfall hangs before the river. Its swift current drops three thousand feet, as if the Milky Way fell from the ninth heaven.
Li Bai’s Lu Mountain Waterfall: flying flow three thousand feet—suspect the River of Heaven falling. Hyperbole for grandeur; believe the qi, not the tape measure. Today: naming awe, allow a little Milky-Way rhetoric.
When facing difficulties, we can learn from Li Bai's bold spirit.
